Advice for beginners
A pamphlet for parents of (children nearing the age of (five is now available from ithe Department of Education Offices throughout the country. This is the first time that I such a publicity effort ;directed at the parents of i pupils starting school has ;been prepared. i The first day at school is a (most important event for children and their parents, and the Department of Education gives advice in the pamphlet on problems that may be faced by the child in the early stages of schooling, questions to ask the school principal, transport matters, and practical ways in which parents can help children to adjust to their new environment. The pamphlet, entitled “Starting School”, will be available soon in Maori, five Pacific Island languages, and English.
