Goods gathered from many countries
The lighting, furniture and antiques at La Lumiere, in Moorhouse Avenue, come from a wide variety of overseas countries. Among the most popular are Spanish table lamps, which are particularly suited to the new Mediterranean and Span-ish-styie homes and furniture settings.
Another popular imported line in lamps and lighting is the crystal fittings. “In New Zealand there is a steady demand for imported crystal lighting,” says Mr Bruce Everett, managing director of La Lumiere. “The Czechoslovakian. and Italian crystal is very popular
and there is also a demand for Japanese crystal today,” he said. Victoriana of every kind is well received in New Zealand too and La Lumiere are constantly importing beautiful antiques and heirlooms from this and other English periods. Imported merchandise is gathered from places as far apart as Austria, India, Taiwan and the United States. Through the efforts of New Zealand manufacturers there is now a wide selection of the best available lighting fittings and furniture designs to choose from.
“New Zealand designers are some of the best in the Southern Hemisphere and through their endeavours the New Zealand public are far more conscious of quality and design than ever before,” says the manager of La Lumiere (Mr Stuart Hutchison).
The ideas for New Zea-land-made lighting and furniture are influenced by overseas trends. Designers are constantly travelling abroad to study the fashion trends, and these styles are incorporated into the finished articles seen in La Lumiere’s showrooms.
