Four killed on Chch roads
"Four persons died after four separate road accidents in and around Christchurch yesterday. Three of the fatalities occurred between midnight and 7 a.m., in what Ministry of Transport officers described as “the saddest morning for a long time.”

Shane Stanley McKenzie, aged 20, of 79 Middlepark Road, Upper Riccarton.
The second fatal accident occurred about 2.12 a.m., when a car struck a pole in Clyde Road, Fendalton. The woman killed was
Valerie Dawn Feona Snelling, aged 39, of 1 Menlo Terrace, Sumner.
A youth died after the car in which he was travelling struck a pole in Marshland Road about 4.15 a.m. yesterday. He was
Brent Edward Stevenson, aged 17, of 5 New Brighton Road.
The dead youth, who was a passenger in the car, suffered severe head injuries. He was rushed by St John ambulance to Christchurch Hospital, but died about two hours later. A woman passenger, was killed instantly when two cars collided on the Old North Road at Pinehaven, near Kaiapoi, soon after 8 p.m. yesterday. The police were stilb trying to contact relatives of the dead woman late last evening, and had''’ not released her name. Four persons were injured in the accident.
