Burglars take liquor
Burglars with a thirst were at work in Christchurch at the week-end. Liquor worth $4062 was stolen after thieves forced a door to the store of Maling and Company, Ltd, in Byron Street, Sydenham, on Friday night. Christchurch detectives yesterday described the burglary as the biggest of its type in Christchurch for some time. The haul included 448 cartons of Lion Brown bottled beer, 38 cartons of
wine, and 30 cartons of champagne. Adding insult to injury, the burglars stole a five-ton truck from the company’s yard to carry off their spoils. The truck was recovered undamaged in a city street on Saturday, but the goods were missing. The Christchurch C. 1.8. is also investigating the theft of a colour television set, valued at $B9O, from a house in Forfar Street, St Albans, on Friday.
