Teachers call for immediate decision

PA Wellington Secondary teachers want an immediate decision from the Government on the modified relief-teacher scheme. The Minister <sf Education (Mr Gandar) said on Friday that he was prepared to recommend to the Government that the day-relief scheme be reinstated, with minor administrative changes, from the beginning of the second term next year. He made a similar statement to the Post Primary Teachers’ Association annual conference in Wellington in August.

I The president of the association (Mr G. Warner) said the Minister’s offer was ■ meaningless unless he made I the recommendation to the ■ Government immediately. “It is not likely to satisfy 1 the majority of our members, i especially those contemplat- ; ing stop-work action,” he , said.

Heretaunga College teachers met yesterday and passed a resolution giving moral support to Naenae College teachers who plan a stopwork meeting next Thursday.
