Nelson A. and P. show a success
Staff reporter Nelson
Perfect weather, near record entries, big crowds, and very smooth organisation contributed to the outstanding success of the Nelson Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s annual show held at Richmond at the week-end.
The sheep, cattle, and horse sections all had the usual number of exhibitors, and received from the public — particularly the farming community — the usual critical appraisal. But one of the biggest sections of this show — and it is certainly the biggest section of any South Island show — is that for wines. This year there were 282 entries in 31 classes; and the standard, according to judges and those well qualified to comment after a few investigatory sips, was excellent over-all. Two of the features at this year’s show were a parade of floats depicting the progress made in the Waimea County, which this year is celebrating its centenary, and a high trapeze and balancing act by Leone, the husband of Tarnyia, who was unable to perform high above the crowd with her husband because of a back ailment.
These two performers have travelled the world
thrilling crowds with their performances. They were last at Nelson in 1963, and will be m Christchurch this week and at the Industries fair in August next year. , Champion awards were made to the following:— PIGS Supreme champion pig of show and supreme champion sow: B.
