Increase in marriage education
PA Wellington There is u significant and gratifying increase in marriage education for adults, the director of the National I Marriage Guidance Council (Mr 1. W. Jenkin) said in Wellington. Mr Jenkin said in his annual report, that the increase was through intensive training schemes, aimed at bringing councils into contact with a more representative group of 1 rried people. In the year ended June, 1974, there were 234 courses for adults. In the next year there were 354, and in’ the year ended June, 1976, there were 464.
“Adults using our education programmes in 1975-76 totalled 25,300 — thirteen times the number in 1971,” Mr Jenkin said. Previously, greater emphasis had been placed on children in secondary' schools. There were 81 courses to about 13.000 children in 1971. The number of children had now fallen to 9000, although the number of courses had risen, because of greater emphasis on small groups.
