Shearers criticised
The standard of Canterbury shearing still has a way to go to reach the standards of shearers in other South Island areas, according to Mr P. B. Gow, a life member and the original organiser of the South Island Shearing and Woolhandling Contests Co-ordinating Society. Commenting on the cancellation last week of the, (New Zealand Corriedale; (shearing championship by j I the Canterbury A and P: I Association, Mr Gow said in la letter to “The Press” that he was disappointed in the (action of the Canterbury. I shearers in forcing the can-; Icellation. Competing in contests, allowed Canterbury shearers to improve their work and compare their standards “with the experts from the south and north of them,” he said.
