Midgets tie in marching
Canterbury's two top midget teams. Blue Star Taxis and Canterbury Motors, tied for first place with 642 deductions at the Timaru marching championships. The young Canterbury Motors team—new to the sport until last season—has shown great improve ment since the beginning of the season, when it was 100 points behind the leading team.
The strong competition fn the; midget grade will help lift the already high standard of march-i ing in the province and Canterbury should dominate the award lists at the South Island and New Zealand championships next year. Results were:—
Junior novice grade. — First team: Skellerup Militaires. Second team: McVicar Guards. First! display: Douglas Highlanders. Second display: Hepburn Am-j bassadors. First leader: A. Costa! (Skellerup Militairesi. Second! leader: B. Burgess (Bruce Printing Highlanders). ! Senior open.—First team and first display: Skellerup Militaires. I Second team: MeCormettes and i McCormick Guards (equal). SecI mid display: Edinburgh Guards I and Acme Pioneers (equal). First I leader: Barbara Seal (McCormick i Guards). Second leader: Raewyn I Shaw (Skellerup Militaires). Midget open grade. — First team: Blue Star Taxis and Canterbury Motors (equal). First display: Blue Star Taxis. Second display: Canterbury Motors. First leader: V. Johnston (Canterburi Motors). Second leader: D. Sin-: cock (Travelfar Cadets). Novice grade.—First team and first leader (L. Stichbury): Mer ritt Beazley. Second team and second leader (J. Roberts): Waitaki Kilties. First display: Brocketts. Second display: Bexley Rangers. Junior open. — First team: Windsor Guards.
