Water polo showdown

! Beckenham-Sockburn A and ; Whai enui A will meet for the first of at least five championship matches next Monday with almost identical records. In the sixth round of premier water polo, they stayed unbeaten and indeed, neither has looked like being beaten. Wharenui annihilated South Brighton, and BeckenhamSockburn easily beat University.

I In the other game, BeckenhamSockburn B rather surprisingly had an easy win against North i Beach. Points, with goals for and against in parentheses, are:— Beckenham-Sockburn A 10 ; 1(62-16), Wharenui A 10 (60-16), • Beckenham-Sockburn B 4 (37-27), University 4 (27-34) North Beach 4 (35-56), Wharenui B 2 (14-44), : South Brighton 2 (21-63). BECKENHAM-SOCKBURN B 13: B. M. Mustchin 4, J. F. , Langeson 4. P. Walls 2, K. J. Baker, L. M. Scott. NORTH BEACH 3: B. Honeybone 3. The match represented a great i improvement on the previous week's performance by Becken- , ham-Sockburn and North Beach; i had no answer. . The latter team was expected 1 ’to at least test Beckenhami• Sockburn but it was only able to hold the combined side in I the middle portion of the game, land then thanks to Brian HoneyIbone. But Beckenham-Sockburn had too much power and efficiency in the first and last quarters, with I the veterans. Lindsay Scott and ; Bryan Mustchin controlling things well, and scored nine to two in those quarters. BECKENHAM-SOCKBURN A 12: c D. J. W. Reid 4. M. A. Harding 4 J. A. Symon 3, Jr R. , Davie. ’.UNIVERSITY 4: W. R. William- * aoa 3, f. J. Carpentar.

Beckenham-Sockburn started with a great rattle, running up five gaols in the first quarter, but as on some other occasions ’his season, the effort petered out a little. It goes without saying that the strong field players, Dennis Reid. Mark Harding and John Symon were more than University could handle, and they had excellent support from John Davie and Graham Hern. University won marks, though, for itfr persistence and Warwick Williamson led the way with some fine goals. WHARENUI A 21: P. R. Tweedie 6 G W. Campbell 5, R. A. Clark 3 C. I. Lewis 2, D. J. Ferigo 2, T. M. McGirr 2, M. J. Lewis. SOUTH BRIGHTON 3: R. Forster. N. G. Brixton, I. Wright. In the five seasons it has spent in the top grade. South Brighton has never been demolished quite as it was in this game. It actually “drew” the second quarter. 2-all, but Wharenui set the seal on its victory with a stunning six goals in the fina. two minutes. Poor South Brighton had no answer to th< speed of Wharenui. the powe» shooting of Gary Campbell, whe had perhaps his best game of th< season and the youthful skills of Derek Ferigo and Chris Lewis Richard Tweedie and Murray McGirr complemented well th work of these, three, and Soutl Brighton’s goals were oppor tunist efforts lurking back foi a rare loots paaa or rebound.
