Teen centre study
Christchurch City Council community workers are looking into the possibility of a central city "drop in” centre for teenagers. During a discussion ot the Community Service Division’s programme for this year, a centre staffed by a volunteer group was suggested. At present, the division’s specific youth programmes are for younger children. Since the city has been divided into geographical areas for community workers, they will try to develop bases in each of those areas. Decentralised bases, perhaps in community centres, would be used by workers and community service groups. Workers would assist with suburban creches, but those facilities would be more the responsibility of neighbourhood groups. Community workers would also encourage the idea that their help is not enough, and they need as many volunteers as possible.
