Committee will discuss plan
A special committee of about 12 will be set up by the Canterbury Regional Planning Authority to promote the forthcoming indicative plan. At yesterday’s meeting of the authority discussion on the composition of the committee was taken in committee because not everyone nominated to serve had actually been contacted. The authority chairman (Mr D. B. Rich) said the nominations would be confirmed at a special meeting of the authority on November 2, when the suggested contents of the indicative 'plan report would be discussed. : The authority agreed in principal to the production of 1000 copies of the plan and 5000 copies of a simple explanatory pamphlet on it. Although the cost involved — about $35,000 - was questioned, it was explained that unless the plan ap-
peared in print the public I would not be made aware of i what progress had been (made so far and so would be unable to judge it fairly. The authority also agreed 'that a pilot study be set up Ifor the Ham cycleway and 'that a meeting of represenitatives of the authority, the I Christchurch City Council, I the Riccarton Borough and IWaimairi County councils, ias well as one from the bicycle planning committee ,be convened as soon as posisible. ■ A letter will also be sent to all councils reiterating some of the main points dealt with in the "Bicycles in Christchurch” report. As a result of the Summit Road Scenic Society's plan to open a walking track between the Sign of the Bellbird and Halswell the authority gave its approval to the erection of two signs and ;■ stile in what is a protected area.
