Memorial appeal

The widow of Mr Christopher Ewart-Biggs, the British Ambassador in Dublin who was assassinated there in July, has launched an appeal for a memorial fund aimed at encouraging writers to contribute towards peace in Ireland. Mrs Jane Ewart-Biggs told reporters: “I hope that something constructive will come out of the grotesque act of vandalism that destroyed Christopher”. The fund is aimed at raising about £15,000 to award a £lOOO prize annually to a writer whose work is judged to have contributed to the ideals of Mr Ewart-Biggs. — London.
