Lamb sales target

PA Wellington The maintenance of a target of 30 per cent of lamb sales away from the United Kingdom market for the 1976-77 season was recommended yesterday by the market development committee of the Meat Board.

The committee also recommended that exporters failing to achieve the 30 per cent target be subject to a levy of 1c a kilogram, with no bonus for exceeding the target. These decisions were influenced by the fact that the committee did not wish to make recommendations that would arbitrarily shift more lamb away from the United Kingdom market during 1976-77, but that greater reliance should be placed on market forces.

The target for last season was 30 per cent, with a penalty of 2.2 c a kilogram and a bonus of 0.5 c a kilogram.

The recommendation is subject to confirmation by the Meat Board.
