Moscow appointment

PA Wellington The Minister of Foreign Affairs (Mr Taiboys) has announced the appointment of Mr J. H. Weir as New Zealand’s Ambassador in Moscow. Mr Weir will replace Mr B. S. Lendrum, who will return to Wellington to work for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mr Weir, a career diplomat, was bom in Christchurch, and attended Christchurch Boys’ High School and the University of Canterbury. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1947. and since then has served in New Zealand diplomatic missions in New York, Ottawa, Canberra and Washington. He was the New Zealand High Commissioner in Singapore from 1966 to 1969. and has been New Zealand’s High Commissioner in Malaysia since 1973. “Mr Weir’s assignment in Moscow will be an important and challenging one,” Mr Talboy s said.
