Maori thesis by French
NZPA London Two young French students who won a prize awarded by the New Zealand Embassy in Paris for a thesis on the Maoris are to take up teaching positions in New Zealand schools.
Miss Brigitte Bouchet will teach French for a year at Whangarei Girls’ High School, and Miss Liliane Favier will take a similar position at Tauranga Girls’ College. Both attend the university of Montpelier in the South of France. They won the embassy’s annual award for a study of the history, culture and present-day conditions of the Maoris.
The prize, worth $3OO, is awarded for the best thesis by a French student on a New Zealand theme.
Soccer.— Sashl M. Singh, of Fiji, an official of the Oceania Soccer Confederation, has received a sports medal from the Nationalist Chinese Education .Minister, Tslang Yien-si. The medal was in recognition of Mr Singh’s contribution to promoting the international soccer movement.
