Verdict of guilty in rape case
PA Auckland Two youths have been found guilty of charges connected with the rape of an Australian nurse at Otahuhu in December. After deliberating for just over five hours, an all-male jury in the Supreme Court at Auckland yesterday afternoon returned its verdict in
the trial of Richard Gary Dalhousie and Lance Clifford Roberts.
Dalhousie, aged 18, unemployed, was found guilty of two charges of being a party to rape, and charges of assault on a female, assault with intent to rape, and assault with intent to facilitate rape.
Roberts, aged 18, unemployed, was found guilty of rape, being a party to rape, and assault with intent to facilitate rape. A third man, John Donald Thompson, aged 21, a labourer, had admitted a charge of being a party to rape and assault with intent to facilitate rape during the trial. A charge of rape and one of being a party to rape were withdrawn after legal argument. All three were remanded in custody for sentence by Mr Justice Henry. In the trial, which began on Tuesday, Mr T. W. H. Kennedy-Grant appeared for the Crown, Mr S. G. Lockhart for Dalhousie, and Mr A. G. Deobhakta for Roberts.
Motor-racing.— The West German formula one racing driver, Rolf Stommelen, lias claimed that talks were under way with the Russian authorities to run a grand prix in Russia. Mr Stom•nelen also said that Saudi Arabia had shown Interest in running ' a formula one grand prix.
