Delegation for I.L.O. conference

Parliamentary reporter A New Zealand delegation will attend the maritime session of the International Labour Organisation in Geneva, the Minister of Transport (Mr McLachlan) said, said. The principal function of the LL.O. is the improvement of working, living and safety conditions of workers, and the present session will be devoting most of its time to devising minimum standards in shipboard safety and health.

The LL.O. has not had a conference devoted entirely to maritime matters since 1970, and this session starts on October 12 and will end on October 29.

The New Zealand delegation will be led by the senior executive officer in the marine servicing section of the Ministry of Transport (Mr R. L. Keats) who, with Miss B. J. Grainger of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Geneva office, will represent the Government. Mr J. Woods of the Seamen’s Union will represent maritime workers, and maritime employees will be represented by the industrial superintendent of the Union Steam Ship Company (Mr R. J. Roes).
