“Wallies” and “Arnolds”

NZPA London One who fits in with London’s new young fashion trend is an Arnold. One who does not—-which is very easy—is a Wally. The Arnolds call anyone who wears conventional clothes like jeans or skirts a Wally. A top-drawer male Arnold paints his toenails red, wears peep-toed sandals, cavalrytwill trousers tucked into gaudy coloured socks and bright plastic Tee-shirts. A fashionable female Arnold dyes her hair an exotic colour, plasters her face with make-up and wears ballet tights or pantaloons, The new craze is sweeping South London, in particular, and the president, of the Bexley Arnolds, 21-year-old Gary Turner, predicts it will grip Britain in the next six months. Turner, who wears an imitation razor blade dangling from one ear and a feather from the other, said: *‘We are out for a good time. We love dressing up and we are not out to make trouble. ‘‘The only thing shocking about us is our dress—and that is because the Wallies don't understand us,” he said.
