Kaikoura to get its school
The Canterbury Education Board yesterday agreed to press ahead with plans for a new high school in Kaikoura, [and also approved v tenders for ■site development v of the Kaiikoura primary school, and two flats for teachers.
The chairman of the building committee' (Mr E. S. lAyers) said that Kaikoura had Hong been in need of better educational facilities. “Kai-; ikoura has been the board’s; I biggest worry for years ; I building-wise,’’ he said. | Site development of the! primary school will involve!; ; renovating and expanding the | best of the existing buildings, and razing the rest. The high I school will be new through-' lout. I "Tenders for the new high; 'school will be due in October.; We hope that work will begin in April of 1977. and be completed before the start of the; 1979 school year,” said Mr I Ayers. Mr Ayers said the board! had been anxious to improve! the situation in Kaikoura for years but had been slowed by conflicting advice from ; successive Governments. Work on both the primary school and the high school I would be completed by the end of 1979, he said. I
