Junior golf coaching flops
After the success of the junior golf coaching clinic in the May school holidays, the follow-up in the August holidays proved a disaster. The secretary of the Canterbury Golf Association (Mr B. H. O’Malley) told management committee members |that only 13 had attended Members offered various reasons; plavers were involved in trips with school
- representative trams, other* had gone si i-ing. some were preparing for examinations and a number were working. However, ail agreed that interest had to t»e engendered in the Aurnst clinic if it was to be continued. There was a suggestion that it be held in conjunct ion with the secondary school* championship. Mr A. H. Brown said that it was important to announce during the clinic in May that a second clinic would be held in August. “You wilt get th* support of ’he keen one" then.” hr said. A request from the Canterbury Greenkcepers' Asset la tion for representation on the management committee was declined. However, members agreed . that the door should not be shut entirely. A system similar to that existing in Wellington will he followed. The Wellmeton association allows a member of the preenkeep i ers’ bodv f<> attend a small ’ number of its meetings when there is an item of interest pertaining to both associa1 tions.
