Ice hockey attracts four teams

The defending champion, Wellington and Auckland, Canterbury, and Invercargill will be represented at the second New Zealand ice hockey championships at the Centaurus indoor rink on September 26. The' success of last year’s tournament has prompted the organisers to try and establish the championship as an annual event.

Mr A. Burke, president of the Canterbury Ice Hockey Association, said he hoped a national association, entirely separate from the New Zealand Ice Skating Association, would be formed at this year’s tournament. Seventeen players are expected from Auckland, 15 from both Canterbury and Invercargill, and 12 from Wellington. The sport, with six players in a team on the ice at one time, is fast moving and often torrid. The tournament will continue all day.
