Furnishings on display

A seminar showing the latest colours and furnishing designs, soon to be released on the New Zealand market, was held in Christchurch last week.

The seminar was held to show representatives from Christchurch furnishings, manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers the new colours and furniture. It also had the aim of encouraging the establishment of New Zealand as a furniture-producing country, by exporting more furniture made and designed in this country. The seminar was conducted by Mrs Prudence Rothenberg, furnishings adviser for the Commercial Division of the Wool Board. Examples shown of carpets, furnishing materials, blankets and new types of modular furniture, were all made and designed in New Zealand. Mrs Rothenberg showed how to decorate a room around paintings by using its colours, and gave details of overseas trends. Denim fabrics and colours are popular, and the use of rugs as wall-hangings is widespread.
