Gone with the (re)wind

PA Rotorua A TV2 “birthday special” programme featuring the reunion of the Howard Morrison Quartet in Christchurch last year has been erased in error from the video tape. The tape of the show, to have been rebroadcast on Sunday evening, was the only ope in existence and was to have been made available to Howard Morrison, who has arranged overseas sales for it. The head of entertainment for TV2 (Mr B. East), said yesterday that the programme was “inadvertently completely erased.”

Morrison, bitterly disappointed. said in Rotorua that much work had gone into arranging the reunion of the quartet, which was prominent in the early 19605. “It was the first film made of the quartet, and none of us had seen it,’’ he said. Sales of the televised show, which was broadcast on November 8 last year, had been arranged in South Africa, Hong Kong, and Manila, and there was interest in Hawaii. “The tragedy of it all is the loss of a film which would have formed part of the history of entertainment in this country,” said

Morrison. “Another reunion of the group would not hold the same magic.” Mr East said it had been intended to broadcast the programme for viewers who were unable to receive TV2 last year, including people in Rotorua. A spokesman for TV2 said a large number of video tapes were handled by the channel and many were erased for reuse. The Morrison tape was mistakenly included among these. Morrison said he had not been advised that the tape had been destroyed; he had been told only that it was not available for replay.
