20TH Century-Fox presents ;.. some of the biggest stars in Hollywood from Theda Bara to Raquel Welch, and Henry Fonda to Robert Redford in a series of film clips that represent some of the finest motion pictures in cinema history. This special presentation highlights of the glittering, glamorous history of 20TH Century-Fox ... its present and its future. The programme is hosted by Richard Chamberlain, now a household name but ignored by Hollywood until he was featured on TV as "Dr Kildare” (1961-65). Since then his career has blossomed and his film credits include "A Thunder of Drums,” "Twilight of Honour,” “Joy in the Morning,” “Petulia.” "The Madwoman of Chaillot,” “Julius Caesar” and “The Three Musketeers.” 20TH Century-Fox Film

Corporation was an American production and distribution company formed in 1935 by a merger of Joseph Schenck’s Twentieth Century Pictures with William Fox’s Fox Film Corporation. Fox had started as a showman and then as n distributor but by putting his profits into production he gave many stars their first break in fiims. He also pioneered the Movietone sound-on-film process but in the early 1930’5, after a series of bad deals, he lost power. The new company had Darryl F. Zanuck as a production head from 1935 to 1956 and he took over from Spyros Skouras as president of the company in 1962. These two men were largely responsible for the Fox image, which usually gave the impression of careful budgettrimming and productionprocessing. In 1969 the

company officially changed its name to Twenty-first Century Fox. Marilyn Monroe, Tyrone Power, Betty Grable, Paul Newman, Shirley Temple and Sonja Henie are a few of the stars who soared to the heights with the studio that brought them to prominence throughout the world.

In the film excerpts in a TV2 programme tonight, viewers can see everything — Tom Mix in his only non-we,stern role, John Wayne in one of his earliest cowboy parts, and even young Clark Gable suffering from a severe bout of “puppy-love.” Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, James Caan, Barbara Streisand — one of the greatest assemblages of stars in television history, are all on this musical, comedy, drama, action-adventure "Six-Thirty Special.”
