Mary Ethel Lee dies

NZPA Auckland Mary Ethel Lee. an active campaigner for her husband. (John A. Lee. has died at her home. She wa> aged SO. She always took an (active part in her husbands campaigns and between 1939 and 1943 toured the South (Island and spoke to large audiences in town halls. Mrs Lee made weekly broadcasts on “Ihe Position of Women in Oui Society.” She was said to (have been one of the best broadcasters, with her deep contralto voice. She was a member of the Labour Party and. after her husband's expulsion from the party, she conducted (some big meetings. She was (nominated for the national (executive after the expulsion •but did not accept. 1 In the 194 Us Mrs Lee be(came a Justice of the Peace (and, through her contacts land knowledge, could dea: with most of the constituency business without leaving it to her husband when he was home in the week-ends.
