Nursing background for drama series

“Angers” a new TAT drama series, aims to be as authentic about the nursing profession as "ZCars” was about the

police, says the producer Ron Craddock, who was in charge of the latter series for four years. The focus is on six student nurses and the challenges they face in the London Hospital of St Angela’s. Between them they represent most of the stages of the training period. When the story opens Maureen Morahari and Patricia Rutherford are on their way to London. Sita Patel and Jo Longhurst are beginning to think of their State Registered Nurse examination, while during the series Ruth Fullman and Shirley Brent achieve that coveted distinction. From time to time the stories deal with other more senior personnel and Miss Windrup, the

nursing tutor, plays an important part in the girls’ lives. More than 100 young actresses were auditioned for the six leading roles, which are played by Fiona Fullerton. Erin Geraghty, Julie Dawn Cole, Clare Clifford, Karan David and Lesley Dunlop. Their ages range from 18 to 21. Faith Brook, whose many television credits include “War and Peace” and “The Pallisers” appears as Miss Windrup. The background to the programmes was thoroughly researched by the script editor Paula Milne who invented the characters.

Six of the writers are women and four are men; their many credits range from “Z-Cars” to “Coronation Street.” Most of them spent a period working in

a hospital to prepare for “Angels." “Angels.” a 8.8. C. production, will begin tomorrow night.
