Scarce means, competing ends
Sir, —For the information of V. J. Wilson I am all for a New Zealand representative in Africa. This might prevent people like V. J. Wilson making remarks such as “The Terror (the whites?) have imposed on the Bantu, Indians, and Coloureds” — a remark which is utter rubbish. The Indian community in South Africa is the most flourishing community of Asians anywhere, which includes India. This is why no Indian in Durban wishes to move to India, and why so many want to bring in their relations from India. The blacks have a standard of living, thanks to separate development, far above anything achieved in black-ruled Africa. The present riots are due to external communist elements working on the minds of simple
people. The Coloureds are the only group for which one must have sympathy. There is no clear answer to their problems, as they refuse to associate with the blacks, and cannot come to an understanding with the whites — Yours, etc., A. C. R. ELDERTON. August 22. 1976.
