Dunedin close to title
Dunedin City has almost assured itself of the Broadlands Southern League soccer title and promotion to the Rothmans League. . It stormed aside Shamrock, 5-0, while Technical — its leading challenger — could only manage a 0-0 draw with Woolston. City has only to beat Thistle at Invercargill next Saturday in its final game to leave Technical and Christchurch Rangers bemoaning lost opportunities and struggling for minor placings. Rangers boat Mosgiel, 2-1, at English Park to retain a spark of hope, but this is remote now. City has 28 points from 17 games, Technical 25 from 16, and Rangers 23 from 15. Western lost 4-0 to Roslyn at Dunedin and is doomed to play next year in the qualifying divi-
sion. Cashmere Wanderers lost, 1 0-3, to Thistle in an abysmal first half display, and will finish ninth. 1 Mosgiel has finished its programme on an emphatic note — - a last-second penalty against Rangers, despite losing a dull game.
Brighton joined Northern Hearts at the top of the qualifying section points table. Hearts were well beaten by Nomads United,
while its closest rivals had decisive victories.
