Kapuni Gas costs more
The Nelson City Council may try to import Australian bottled gas because shipping the Kapuni product to the South Island costs too much. This is the recommend- ; ation of the council’s gas committee, which was told that Australian liquid petroleum gas could be landed direct in Nelson cheaper than from Kapuni. . The service could be more reliable than across Cook Strait too. Even with bulk shipments of L.P.G., the freight to Nelson from Kapuni will be 50c a gallon. The fuel is only 28c a gallon. The council is looking for another fuel to replace its pipe system of municipal naphtha gas. With L.P.G., consumers would receive their supply ) from large low-pressure i bottles.
