An overwhelming response has greeted the organisers of the 1976 primary schoolpupils’ chess tournament. As an aftermath to “The Press” secondary tournament which finished last week, the tournament has had wide appeal. Schools have been so enthusiastic about the game that team entries totalled about 40. However, the organisers have found this number too great to handle. Each school has been allowed one team in the tournament and there will be 19 teams in the competition representing nine intermediates, seven state primary schools, and three private primary schools. The tournament will be held at Linwood Intermediate today and tomorrow. It will be run on a Swiss system with the maximum playing time being 75 minutes. Each team will consist of four players.
