Parlez Vite likely in ’chase at Oamaru
If Riccarton form proves the best form Parlez Vite should take beating in the J. M. Shaw Memorial Steeplechase at Oamaru today. The fortunes of a small army of treble betters are certain to hinge on a victory for Hector Anderton’s competent ’chaser in today’s cross-country event. The J. M. Shaw Memorial is the third leg of a treble for course patrons only and also the first leg of the T.A.B. treble at the Oamaru Jockey Club’s spring meeting. Success eluded Parlez Vite
in his two starts at the Grand National meeting but his two seconds — the first behind the unbeaten Scenic Reserve in the Enfield . Steeples and the other behind the highly promising Purdo in the Hunt Cup — were enl couraging enough to suggest : an almost certain victory ' around the provincial circuit. Parlez Vite will not find i the Oamaru country anywhere near as formidable as I Riccarton. If he is as compet- • ent on firmer ground — and > the going today should only . have the sting out of it — he ’ should earn a well-deserved victory. ■ Shirley’s Last and Brobon,
the best .behind Scenic Reserve andl Parlez Vite in the Enfield Steeples on Grand National Steeplechase day, are likely; to be the Wingatui ’chaser’s strongest rivals again today. Both have previous successes over the Oamaru (country on their records. Show Gate still remains a firm fancy for the Whitestone Handicap;, first leg of the T.A.B. dfouble, and Colada could have consolidated her position tas favourite for the second leg, the Glenmoa Handicap, with a bold run for second to Grey Way at the race trials at Orari last Thursday
