Psychiatric staffing meeting
The North Canterbury Hospital Board will meet representatives of the Sunnyside sub-group of the Public Service Association today over staffing of the new 20-bed psychiatric unit at Princess Margaret Hospital. The sub-group has heitfi authorised by Sunnyside P.S.A. members to “use all the means at its disposal” to ensure that nursing staff at the unit will have the same conditions of employment as those at Sunnyside Hospital. The nurses want specialised psychiatric nurses to staff the unit. The chairman of the sub-group (Mr G; Nimmo) said nurses at. psychiatric hospitals made more money and enjoyed better conditions than staff of genera! hospitals.
In an advertisement in "The Press” yesterday, the subgroup says that psychiatric nurses see the proposals of the North Canterbury Hospital Board as major erosions into the public health services.
