Dole was Nixon man
NZPA-Reuter Kansas City! Senator Robert Dole, of! Kansas, chosen by Presidentl Ford as his running mate for the November election, is a political moderate who has had to live down his reputation as a defender of Richard Nixon during the Watergate scandal. The handsome former serviceman, badly wounded in World W’ar Two, is popular among fellow Republicans and should be a hardhitting campaigner on the Ford ticket. A 53-year-old midWesterner, he served as chairman of the Republican Party during three years of the Nixon Administration. When Watergate broke, Senator Dole emerged as one of Mr Nixon’s strongest backers—the reputation he had to put behind him during his 1974 campaign for reelection to the Senate.
