Squash juniors seeded
Five Christchurch players have received seedings for the Cheezels New Zealand age group squash championships in Lower Hutt later this month. Two of them — Joanne Milne (Sumner), aged 16, and Stuart Davenport (Burnside), aged 14 — have been ranked No 1 for the girls’ under 17 and boys’ under 15 respectively. Davenport has won the under 13 age group for the last two year- and Miss Milne is the South Island champion in her section and finished runner-up in the North Island championships last May.
Two boys from the Burnside club — Jamies Bushell (third) and Mark Crosbie (fourth) — have been seeded for the under 13 section and another Burnside player, Chris Wasley, is seeded third for the boys’ under 17.
For Crosbie, Bushel! and I Davenport there will be a [bonus if they do well. The [finalists in the under 15 and under 13 age groups will be flown to Australia to compete in the Cheezels South Pacific junior squash championships. A record entry of 188 (116 boys and 72 girls) will contest the national championships, to be held at the Mitchell Park club.
