PA Wellington The latest addition to an already overcrowded world tennis calendar, the amateur world intercontintental championships, in which a Canterbury player, Robyn Hunt, was to play, has been deferred. The secretary of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association (Mr D. Massam) has received a cable from the event’s organisers in Sofia, Bulgaria, advising that the tournament had been deferred for a year, at least.

It said the inaugural event had been “postponed” because it clashed with other major national and international championships and because many players were not available.
