All in the family
The lower grade rugby league championship grand finals, to be held on August 28, will have a special significance for one family that has had a long association with the code.
Geoff Cooper will be packing down in the Papanui senior third division front row in one fixture, while his son, Grant, is a member of the Papanui 17-years team. Both Papanui sides earned automatic promotion to their finals last Saturday, and have a bye next week-end. A long-serving provincial i representative as a prop, Geoff Cooper was in the I South Island teams which gained victories over the North in 1962 and 1964. and also played in the interisland match and against South Africa in 1963. The younger Cooper has shown considerable promise, and was in the Canterbury 15-years tournament squad last sMson.
