Gillies guilty of robbery
PA Auckland John Frederick Gillies was found guilty yesterday by a jury on charges of armed robbery’, unlawful possession of a pistol, stealing two silver ingots valued at $455, and car conversion. The 43-year-old labourer had denied all the charges, which related to an armed raid of a house in Mount Albert on May 7. His co-offender, Kerry Bruce Randall, aged 22, unemployed, was found guilty of aggravated robbery and car conversion. He had denied those charges. Mr Justice Perry remanded both in custody for sentence. The jury returned its verdict after deliberating for four hours. The trial in the Supreme Court at Auckland had lasted four days.
