Water polo lacking registered clubs

Although water polo :n Canterbury was numerically as strong as it had ever been, only six registered clubs were playing at present, the annual meeting of the Canterbury Water Polo Board was told. The board again had more than 4() teams but with the suspension of University, and Kaiapoi de-registering, players were registered through only six clubs. Mr Syman presented a budget with an expected deficit of $2BO. Mr M. C. Scott, a Canterbury open grade or under-21 coach for nine years, retired from the senior post. He has other commitments coaching the New Zealand team and being on the New Zealand board. The chairman of the board <Mr W. R. Williamson), who shared the coaching duties last season with Mr Scott, was elected the senior coach. Other officers elected were:— 'Secretary. Mrs S. Smith; treasurer, Mr J. A. Syman; gear steward, Mr JI. V. Rooney; senior selectors. Messrs Williamson (coach), T. M. McGirr and M. C. Scott; junior selectors, Messrs L. M. Scott (unden-19 coach), R. M. Cairns (under-16 coach) and R. B. Erickson (under-13 coach); under-13 selectors, Jfessrs Erickson. Cairns and M. C. Marshall; women’s selectors, Messrs R. A. Clark (coach), M. G. Davie and JI. D. Smith.
