JNZPA-Reuter Kansas City •j A surprise twist has been Jthrown into the close battle I between President Ford and Mr Ronald Reagan for the Presidential nontJination as their long . struggle enters its last week. An unexpected announce- : ment by the conservative i New York Senator, Mr James Buckley, that he was considering entering the fray was greeted by both the Reagan and Ford camps as helpful to them. The White House said Mr I Ford — who is ahead of Mr (Reagan for the 1 130 deleigates necessary to be nominiated next Wednesday — be-] llieved Mr Buckley’s entry (would clinch the nomination) for him on the first ballot. I The Reagan camp viewed the 11th hour emergence of the New York Republican as a Presidential hopeful quite differently, seeing Mr Buckley as a “spoiler” who would stop Mr Ford from gaining a first-ballot win.
