Basketball sponsored to $l000
The New Zealand women s club basketball championship, which begins on Friday with the zone qualifying tournaments, will be sponsored by the underwear manufacturer, Somo-President Textiles, Ltd. A contract involving cash and T-shirts amounting to $lOOO was signed by representatives of the New Zealand Basketball Federation and the company in Christchurch yesterday. “It will be a tremendous help,” the executive officer of the federation (Mr Joe McLeod) said “This is only the second yeat lof the women’s championship.”
The final will be held it New Plymouth from Septem ber 27 to October I The national men’* chain pionship will again be -pop sored by Smallbone Agencie Limited, under the banner Old Crow. Its financial contri bution has been substantial l increased this season i $3OOO.
