Bojold should start season with a win
By
G. K. Yule
An eye-catching run at the Addington trials last week suggests that Bojold will break through for his first win since being secured some months ago by Bob Negus in the Kurow Cup tomorrow.
After a number of rath t disappointing runs. Bojold showed that he might not be long returning to his best form when he beat al! but the promising Majestic Pndo a’ the end of a solid 2400 m at Ashburton on June 7. He had only . one »ther start, at Rangiora later in June, and came on boldlv for seventh, to Amarino after lus-
ing his position in the middle stages. In much of his earlier! racing, Bojold was far from a reliable beginner. But at last week’s trials he accelerated so miicklv that after 200 m he was well clear of his rivals. He was steadied later, but at the finish he was still i under a hold with almost five lengths to spare He paced the 2000 m in 2:39.2, with his final 400 m in 29.6 He w II onlv have to reproduce that effort to prove much too
speedy for the majority, in this field. PROMISING TYPE American Chief, a member of Felix Newfield’s Templeton team, showed much pro, mise in the little that was seen of him last season. He fell little short of the top three-year-olds and if anywher- near his peak, he should be in the thick of the finish. He looks to have great potential as a stayer. Inshallah raced with di«tinction towards 'he end of i las; season and along with Quite Regal and Chaka she | appeals most of the others I on the limit.
Quite frequently the Kurow Cup has been won from behind the limit. Miss
Ireland, Majestic Pride, GLnwood and Bluegum Surprise, all with wins close up in their records, will start from 20m All are capable of bold runs and they will have to be c .sidered. Three of those handicapped on the front of the second leg, the Waits ki Hanover Stakes, have returned place dividends, while Our location, on lOr . is the lone winner in the field. However they might have ’o produce something a little extra to heat Gianna. which was sixth in the Sapling Stakes and then fourth at Pangfora both races (ring run in June Michael’s Advice and Ambridge will b» in demand, as will Our Location and Torrid.
