PA Brisbane The glamour New Zealand stayer. Balmerino. has been placed in the doubtful-starter class for the Caulfield and Mel bourne Cups.
This follows an announcement b> his trainer. Brian Smith, that the $120,000 Cox Plate is his main spring mission. Balmerino is currently on the second line of betting for the Caulfield Cup, and is outright favourite for the Melbourne Cup.
Smith said he was not thinking beyond the Cox Plate for Balmerino and that there was a definite doubt about him starting in either the Caulfield or Melbourne Cups.
Balmerino has been spelled in Brisbane since June, when he won the Brisbane Cup.
