Teacher dies at 105
PA Wellington A woman who taught in Taranaki at the turn of the century, has died in New Plymouth at the age of 105. She was Mrs Mary Grace Cartwright, who was bom in England and followed her father and brothers to New Zealand in 1893, when the family settled near Inglewood. She combined the raising of six children with studying for her teacher’s certificate and when her husband died shortly after the birth of her youngest child she took up the profession first at Pukearuhe. She retired from Huirangi school when she was 58.
She lived at Urenui for many years before becoming ■ a patient of Barrett Street i Hospital, New Plymouth, for the last 10 months of her | life. She was 105 last March.
