Comedian to marry
NZPA London The comedian, Charlie Drake, aged 51. is to marry an 18-year-old can-can dancer in his seaside show, the Press Association reported. Charlie announced his engagement to Elaine Bird, a blue-eyed brunette in “Slapstick and Old Lace" at Margate’s Lido Theatre. They met only six weeks ago. The couple kept their romance a secret from the rest of the cast then decided to announce their engagement to the cast and audience alike.
Champagne corks popped on stage as Charlie announced the news. “I knew the right girl would come along one day and it was love at first sight for both of us,” he said. His first marriage—also to a dancer—was dissolved five years ago. He has three sons, the eldest of whom is 21.
