Westport land sale attracts interest
The sale of two commercial areas of land in the centre of Westport oh Augi ust 27 has already generated ; considerable interest. i One of the blocks, covered Iby seven titles hut divided into two main sections, is of three-quarters of an acre on Palmerston Street, and is the site of the former Victoria Theatre and Central Boarding House. The theatre is now used for storage.
This area was ideal for commercial development, said the auctioneer, Mr R. D. Brown, of H. D. Livingstone, Ltd. The zoning was “special service development” which would allow the building of theatres, hotels, professional or commercial offices, shops, or showrooms.
Although the two blocks were separated by another ■building, access had been provided for between the two, said Mr Brown. The other block to be offered on Palmerston Street is of six perches, and would be suitable for a shop, Mr Brown said. The 1975 Government valuation of the larger area was $30,700. said Mr Brown, but there had already been an offer made for the property at a figure close to that.
The vendor is Little Wanganui Subdivisions, Ltd, which later this year will offer for sale residential sections at Little Wanganui, south of Karamea.
