Aerial on Mount Grey
Sir, — I object strongly to Mr Levy’s argument that “the alternative of declining the application would have been unreasonable,” with regards to the aerial on Mount Grey. There is another, and more reasonable alternative: “That the construction must comply with the environmental report — the tower will not be seen from the north, east, or south, if this position is not detrimental to its operations.” Government departments should not be allowed to get away with flagrant breaches such as this; if the tower performed concealed, then it should do so. As Mr Levy has not put forward the claim of best operating position for the present site, it could be assumed that ease of construction was the main reason for its position, and now the tower will stick up like a sore toe for the next 50 years, a sad reminder. — Yours, etc., ARTHUR PETERS. August 3, 1976.
