Looking into the rubbish
Christchurch rubbish collectors may soon be able to see through plastic rubbish bags to reduce the chance of being injured by dangerous objects placed inside them.
New bags recommended by the Christchurch City Council’s works and traffic committee yesterday would still be blue, but would be partly transparent. Types of rubbish being left out would not be readily noticeable to passers-by, but collectors would be able to see sharp objects inside. There will be no cost difference in the lessopaque bags. The City Engineer (Mr P. G. Scoular) said there might be less union difficulties if injuries were reduced through the use of these bags.
