Recreation study for disabled
A recreation officer for the disabled has been appointed to the staff of the Christchurch Young Men’s Christian Association. It is the first time in this country that a person has been employed to explore the social and leisure needs of the disabled, according to a statement from the Accident Compensation Commission. The appointment is for two years, and if it is successful the scheme may be adopted by the Y.M.C.A. in other centres.
The recreation officer is Mr D. Payne, aged 42, who was formerly director of Community Volunteers in Christchurch.
