OBITUARY Mr T. Davis

Mr Tom Davis, a Christchurch thoroughbred owner, breeder and racing administrator, died on Tuesday. At the time of his death he was a vice-president of the North Canterbury Racing Club, which he also served as a steward for several years. He raced the Count Rendered mare Renloch in partnership with a brother, and from her they bred Nell, the winner of three races and dam of Sanderae, the winner of nine including the V.R.C. Oaks. Mr Davis’s best winner was Nell’s half-sister Pango, winner of eight races, and dam of the successful performer Zebak. For the partnership of Mr Davis and Mr Robin Weir, of Ranfurly, Zebak has won seven races including the C.J.C. Champagne Stakes. Zeba k ’ s half-brother, Castle Hill, which Mr Davis sold, has won six races. Horse omitted.— Our Countess was omitted from the handicap for the Melbourne Cup, published on Monday. She is set to carry 49kg.
